Cristiano Ronaldo transfer: Real Madrid move a step closer after 'perfect' medical

After more than a year of speculation, it was finally announced earlier this month that Ronaldo would be moving to the Bernabeu after United accepted a world record £80m transfer fee from Real. But despite passing the fitness tests with flying colours, the 24-year-old admits there are still a few key issues to iron out before he officially switches to the Spanish side. 'Everything came out perfect in the medical,' he said while on holiday in the Algarve. 'Everything has not been concluded yet but once it's all sorted out I want to go and do the pre-season. 'First I want to stay here a few days on holiday to rest so I am in tip-top shape when I arrive – the truth is I can't wait to start. I know that the expectations are great but I have to get used to that.' Florentino Perez has made no secret of his intentions to buy the world's biggest names in football this summer, and as well as the £80m spent on Ronaldo, the Real president also sanctioned a £59m deal to sign former Fifa Player of the Year Kaka from AC Milan. Relishing the opportunity to play with some of the world's biggest names, Ronaldo said it may take him a little time to adapt to the style of La Liga having been Premier League based for six years. 'It will be great to play with Kaka, he's a great player and has also won the Golden Ball. It will give me great pride to play alongside him, but also with Raul, Iker Casillas or Guti. "The beginning will be complicated - I was six years in Manchester and there the football is more physical, faster, but that is not an excuse. I only hope that I can adapt as quickly as possible. Anyway, I think when we are good, we adapt ourselves to any kind of football - my life is based on challenges.' Ronaldo concluded by sending a message to United fans insisting that those in central positions at the club had been made aware of his resolve to leave, and more over, eventually came around to support it. 'I want to take this opportunity to tell the fans of Manchester United that the important people at the club understood my will to leave. 'Real Madrid was always a club where I wanted to play – I want to start very strongly, to play my football and thank Real for everything they did for me.'
