Cristiano Ronaldo transfer: Nani claims he can fill the void for Manchester United
Nani joined United in June 2007 for a fee of around £14 million from Sporting Lisbon and came billed as having the same raw potential and talent as Ronaldo. When he first burst in to the United line up he showed flashes of that ability, raising hopes that manager Sir Alex Ferguson had unearthed another major talent. The departure of Ronaldo will leave a huge gap in the United team but Nani feels, despite his stuttering development of late, he is well placed to fill it. 'I can have more opportunities. Cristiano was very important but now I think I can show my value," he said. 'Cristiano's departure is not an impossible fix.' Replacing the irreplaceable – current United players who can fill Ronaldo's boots: Nani – Naturally gifted attacking wide player in the same mold as his compatriot. Still far from the finished article though and will need to push on to prove to Ferguson he is able to produce his best week-in-week-out. Carlos Tevez – Future still uncertain at the club after an unwillingness on the part of Ferguson and United to pay the reported £23 million needed to make his loan deal permanent. Loved by the fans and a tireless worker who would relish the opportunity to take on Ronaldo's mantle as the star performer. Danny Welbeck – Highly rated by Ferguson and, like Nani, full of raw potential. Has already proved he is capable of scoring spectacular goals but has also already had a run in with the manager after he was perceived to have arrogantly celebrated scoring on one of his rare opportunities in the Premier League last season – possibly making him a natural heir to Ronaldo. Federico Macheda – Italian teenager who made himself an instant United hero in scoring winning goals against Aston Villa and Sunderland in successive weeks to turn the title race back in United's favour when they were going through a sticky patch.
