Cristiano Ronaldo is Sent off Straight Back to Manchester United
This is going to be the most anticipated summer transfer market in many years. There will be many stars and managers on the move this summer and none of them will be bigger than Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo’s red card against Atletico Madrid during the Copa del Ray could be the final act at Real Madrid of arguably the greatest player in football today. Ronaldo has turned down several opportunities to extend his contract; refusing to even discuss it at times. It has long been rumored that Ronaldo is not happy at Real Madrid and that the club does not support him enough. It is also rumored that he is not on speaking terms with some of his team mates over comments they have made about him in the press.
In September, Ronaldo stopped celebrating goals. When asked why, he is quoted as saying “I’m sad - when I don’t celebrate goals it’s because I’m not happy.” He also went on to say “It’s a professional thing. Real Madrid know why I’m not happy.” Though he eventually started celebrating again, he went out of his way to not celebrate his goals, both home and away, against United in the Champions League knock out rounds.
As stated before, Ronaldo has long felt that Real Madrid have not supported him in his pursuit of the Ballon d’Or. He has lost the award the last four years to Lionel Messi while a member of Real Madrid’s roster. He did win it 2008 while a member of United where Messi finished behind him in the voting. In 2007, Ronaldo finished second to Kaka while Messi again finish behind him in third.
It is now rumored that Jose Mourinho is making a move to try and highjack any bid that United make for the superstar and bring him to Chelsea with him. There is no doubt that Chelsea has the funds to do this, but are they missing the bigger picture? Cristiano Ronaldo is Manchester United red and it will have to be an extraordinary bid from Chelsea to lure him away. This will be the story of the summer so get ready for the drama and excitement.
