Control the key for Ferguson
22 Jan 2010 - 09:14:53
Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that player control is the secret to his success at the helm of Manchester United.
Ferguson has won the Premier League title 11 times, the Champions League on two occasions, five FA Cups and three League Cups during his glittering 23 years in charge at Old Trafford.
During his tenure several star names have come and gone with the likes of David Beckham, Roy Keane, Jaap Stam and Ruud van Nistelrooy all falling foul of the famously hard-line Scot.
However, Ferguson claims his ability to maintain dressing room order is the main reason for his success at United.
Speaking at a lecture in Dublin, he said: "If I lose control of these multi-millionaires in the Manchester United dressing room then I'm dead.
"So I never lose control. If anyone steps out of my control, that's them dead.
"Through my development, I've come across two issues - power and control.
"Control is important, very, very important. My control is the most important thing."
