Carrick to miss season's start
06 Aug 2010 - 10:20:19
Manchester United's England midfielder Michael Carrick will miss the opening games of the new campaign after suffering an ankle injury during pre-season action.
The 29-year-old picked up a knock in the 7-1 win over an Airtricity League XI in Dublin on Wednesday evening and will be sidelined for around a fortnight.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed: "Michael hurt his ankle on Wednesday.
"It is nothing serious, but he will be out for a couple of weeks, so he will miss the start of the season."
Meanwhile, United are preparing to allow back-up strikers Danny Welbeck and Mame Biram Diouf to leave the club on loan.
The duo's first-team opportunities at Old Trafford appear to be limited, especially following the arrival of Mexico international Javier Hernandez earlier this summer.
