Carrick reveals turning point

Michael Carrick believes Manchester United's dramatic victory over Aston Villa changed the course of their season. The Red Devils were rocking heading into the Old Trafford contest on 5th April, with consecutive defeats suffered at the hands of Liverpool and Fulham. It looked as though they were in for more misery against Martin O'Neill's men as they found themselves 2-1 down with 10 minutes to go. However, goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Federico Macheda saw them get their Premier League title tilt back on track, and they have not looked back since. "Sometimes in a season you get a feeling that one moment is going to make all the difference," said the England midfielder. "Aston Villa was one of them. It was a huge win. "We were losing and ended up with Federico Macheda and Danny Welbeck up front. "At that point people wouldn't have given us much hope. Getting a victory that day gave a massive lift to everyone and since then things have gone pretty well." TwistsUnited have followed that inspiring success with victories over Sunderland and Portsmouth in the league and a UEFA Champions League quarter-final win against Porto. They did come up short against Everton in the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday, going down on penalties to the Toffees, but remain on course to land an impressive quadruple. Carrick, though, is refusing to get carried away, insisting a potentially tricky visit from Tottenham on Saturday is the Red Devils' only concern at present. "We are only talking about one game," he said. "In a lot of people's eyes last week we were not going to win the title. All of a sudden the same people are now saying it is a given. "There are a lot of matches to play and there may be more twists and turns. "Hopefully there aren't. Hopefully we win every game. But we can't get too disappointed or too carried away with individual results. "That is the attitude which will see us through."
