Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is looking forward to Owen Hargreaves' expected arrival at Old Trafford.
Hargreaves is set to agree a four-year contract with the Premiership champions this week after Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer confirmed the England international was leaving the German club in a reported £17million transfer.
Carrick has played alongside Hargreaves on the international stage and believes the tenacious midfielder will help United build on their title-winning season.
"We are at the biggest club in the world and we want the best players," said Carrick.
"World-class players are going to strengthen you and Owen is a top player.
"We need a big squad. That has been proved this season when you are fighting on all fronts."
Following Bayern's final Bundesliga game of the season on Saturday, Beckenbauer revealed the player would leave the Allianz Arena to bring to an end a ten-month transfer pursuit for United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
"Owen Hargreaves will go," confirmed Beckenbauer. "It's also the wish of the player."
