Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes that his number two, Carlos Queiroz, will eventually be a strong contender for the top job at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese has made a huge impact as Ferguson's assistant and the Scotsman believes that Queiroz could take on the top job, despite suffering during short stint in charge at Real Madrid.
Ferguson told the Manchester Evening News: "Thankfully I don't have to make the decision.
"But I have a great assistant in Carlos Queiroz, I think he will be a strong candidate.
"However, we have new owners now and I don't know how they look at the situation over in America.
"They have been great supporters of everything we have done, but they may have their own ideas."
Meanwhile, Red Devils right-back Danny Simpson has signed a contract extension to keep him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2010.
The 20-year-old has yet to make a senior appearance for United, but impressed during a loan spell with Sunderland last season.
