Calderon hints at big arrival

Published: 15 Apr 2009 - 14:21:46

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has hinted that a deal is already in place to bring Cristiano Ronaldo to Spain. The Manchester United winger has only recently reiterated his desire to stay at Old Trafford but that has not stopped the rumours over his future from persisting. Ronaldo has continuously been linked with a move to the Spanish champions ever since he publically flirted with the club in the summer of 2006. The current World Player of the Year was persistently courted by Real last summer but United boss Sir Alex Ferguson persuaded the winger to stay put. Calderon, who resigned as Real president in January after allegations of vote rigging over the club's proposed budget surfaced, revealed without naming names that he had helped to secure the signing of a current leading player. "I can't give any names," he told French radio station RMC. "What I can say is that one of the best players in the world, thanks to Ramon Calderon and difficult and laborious negotiations that having been going on since last year, is already formally a Real Madrid player. "Subject obviously to him being able to sign the relevant contract."
