Burley hails maturing Fletcher
09 Oct 2008 - 09:11:59
Scotland coach George Burley believes that midfielder Darren Fletcher could go on to win a century of caps for his country.
The 24-year-old Manchester United star already has 39 international appearances under his belt and is set to lead Scotland in their World Cup qualifier against Norway this weekend.
Burley said: "There is no doubt about Darren's ability, his commitment and his passion. For me, he has got all the attributes to be a top international player.
"He has developed into one of the top midfield players in Britain and he is holding his place at Manchester United. He is still developing and he will get better.
"He has got all the qualities and with his energy and his passion he will get on the ball and make things happen.
"He has got great passion to play for Scotland. He is 24 and he could have another ten years, so if everything goes well he is certainly capable of reaching 100 caps.
"That bit of responsibility of captaincy can push him on further. He likes responsibility, he is not frightened of big stages and he is a big game player."
