Boss Happy With Keeper Display

Published: 06 Feb 2012 - 13:31:13

Sir Alex Ferguson enjoyed watching the performance of keeper David de Gea on Sunday and admitted after the game that he was impressed.

After coming back from 3-0 down, it still wasn’t plain sailing for United who had to call on the keeper to make crucial saves from Juan Mata and Gary Cahill.

There has been much talk about whether de Gea is good enough to take a place in the United goal and he has looked less than confident at times, the game against Liverpool was a classic example.

But after making sure United got a point at Stamford Bridge the 21 year old got praised by the boss.

"We know his potential, we know he's an outstanding talent and we've got to trust that,"said Fergie.

"We bought him on the premise that he could be our goalkeeper for 10 years and he showed that today.

"He dealt much better with all the aerial balls that came in.

"It's experience. He's not used to the English game, he's had some bad moments this year in terms of dealing with that type of play.

"But today, I think he's got the bit between his teeth and he's done well."
