    Blatter clarifies Ron comments

    01 Aug 2008 - 14:20:25

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has denied ever suggesting that Cristiano Ronaldo was being treated like a 'modern slave' by Manchester United.

Blatter had been quoted as saying that United should allow Ronaldo to make his dream move to Real Madrid, stating that it was wrong to keep a player against his will, even if he was still under contract.

He reportedly commented: "I think in football there is too much modern slavery, transferring players or buying players here and there and putting them somewhere.

"We are trying now to intervene in such cases. If the player wants to play somewhere else, then a solution should be found."

However, Blatter has now moved to clarify those comments, by adding: "I have never said that Ronaldo is a slave.

"What I said is slavery is with the young people, youngsters that European clubs are trying to get and bring them to the big clubs. This is my expression, this is modern slavery.

"I have never mentioned that for Ronaldo, but the press have distorted it. Ronaldo is not a slave."
