    Berbatov earns Fergie praise

    22 Oct 2008 - 07:59:54

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is delighted to see recent signing Dimitar Berbatov finding his feet quickly with the Red Devils.

The 27-year-old Bulgaria striker joined United from Spurs for £30million on transfer deadline day and has already scored five goals in seven games, including two in the 3-0 Champions League victory over Celtic on Tuesday evening.

Afterwards, Ferguson said: "Dimitar produced some fantastic pieces of football. The players are starting to understand what type of player he is a bit more now.

"I always feel he produces passes that mean something. Three or four of them were absolutely superb and overall he has five goals for us already, so he is making a terrific contribution."

Meanwhile, Ferguson also praised Wayne Rooney for his impressive recent form, with the England man on the scoresheet for the seventh game in a row for club and country.

"The only reason we are not talking about Wayne at the same level as Cristiano (Ronaldo) is the fact one of them scored 42 goals last season," the Scotsman added. "Wayne is capable of getting to that level."

Ferguson concluded by saying that he felt United were always in control against the SPL champions, who rarely threatened at Old Trafford.

He said: "It was a bad night for Celtic, I just felt we were always on the attack.

"The speed of our play was very good and we have to think a result in Glasgow will get us through, but Celtic have a very good record up there, so it will be a difficult game."
