Berba ready to silence critics
03 Sep 2009 - 11:08:03
Striker Dimitar Berbatov is confident of winning over his doubters during his second season at Manchester United.
The £30million Bulgarian has yet to convince United fans that he is worthy of his hefty price tag following last year's arrival from Tottenham Hotspur.
Berbatov scored just nine Premier League goals for the champions last season and was regularly left on the bench by manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
But following the departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez during the summer and the added expectation now on his shoulders, Berbatov is confident of stepping up.
"I think this year will be different for me," he declared. "I've had a pre-season tour with the team, which I missed last year.
"And I really know how every player in the team plays now, so I can understand them better on the pitch.
"Plus, Sir Alex knows the best way he can use me. We have many games and I'm looking forward to each one so I can score goals and make my contribution to the team."
