    Berba never considered City

    12 Sep 2008 - 16:46:01

Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov insists there was never any chance of him signing for Manchester City on transfer deadline day.

The 27-year-old Bulgaria international eventually completed his transfer from Tottenham to Old Trafford at the beginning of this month, despite City's last-gasp bid to seal his services.

However, Berbatov said in the build-up to Saturday's clash against Liverpool: "I would not even have thought about Manchester City. My only goal was to come to United.

"I heard about the offer City made and the money they wanted to spend. It did not make any difference to me. I just wanted to come here.

"My ambitions and goals are big and I want to fulfil them at the biggest club in the world. That was my only goal - and I achieved it."

Berbatov is expected to make his United debut at Anfield, and added: "I might be nervous because it's a new team, new players, a new atmosphere.

"But hopefully with the help of my team-mates I can find my place in the side and help the team with my goals.

"It will be strange to play against Robbie (Keane), but it will also be nice. I have good memories of playing alongside him - it was a good partnership.

"Everything comes to an end but I will be glad to see him again."

United have been handed a double boost with the news that Michael Carrick and Owen Hargreaves have been passed fit to play in the game.

Carrick has recovered from an ankle injury, while Hargreaves had been struggling with tendonitis.
