Bayern Munich have once again told Manchester United that they will not be selling England international Owen Hargreaves in the January transfer window.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was linked with the midfielder in the summer and, despite Bayern repeatedly insisting that the 25-year-old was not for sale, the Premiership leaders revealed earlier this week that they were still hoping to bring the player to Old Trafford.
However, Bayern's general manager Uli Hoeness told The Mirror: "All United's efforts to sign Owen Hargreaves are utterly futile.
"We will not release Owen Hargreaves in January under any circumstances."
Ferguson had earlier said: "There's no update because we haven't spoken to Bayern Munich again, but we're still interested."
Hargreaves is currently recovering from the broken leg he suffered in September.
