At least Rooney's staying at United and he wants to keep his No 10 shirt

Wayne Rooney is happy wearing the Manchester United No 10 shirt -leaving the iconic No 7 vacated by Cristiano Ronaldo up for grabs. United greats George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Bryan Robson have all graced the No 7 shirt and Rooney could have been next, following Ronaldo's £80million move to Real Madrid. But Rooney has decided the No 10 jersey is every bit as meaningful. 'Even at United he is following great players like Denis Law, Bobby Charlton, Dennis Viollet to name just a few who wore No 10,' said a source. 'But internationally the number has been even more famous by players such as Pele and Maradona. 'Wayne regards it as an honour to wear such a famous United shirt.' Meanwhile, Beckham has been told by AC Milan he can return in the winter to finetune his skills for next summer's World Cup. New Milan boss Leonardo was clearly impressed by Beckham's contribution during his loan stint at the club at the end of last season. 'We have such an incredible, marvellous rapport with Beckham that he is certainly one to have another look at when the time comes,' said Leonardo, a former World Cup winner with Brazil and the man who succeeded Carlo Ancelotti. 'Obviously David's return will depend on a few things, not least what he wants to do. But if he is still at the level he showed this time at Milan, then he'll be fine to come back, really fine.' Beckham will soon be heading back to California for the MLS season but that ends in November, which means the 34-year-old midfielder will have to find a club for the winter if he is to stay in contention for Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.
