Arm injury sidelines Giggs
11 Feb 2010 - 15:47:41
Manchester United's veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs has been ruled out for up to four weeks after suffering a fracture in his right arm during the 1-1 draw at Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.
Giggs was forced off the Villa Park pitch following a clash with Steve Sidwell 16 minutes from time and sent for x-rays, which showed up a broken bone in his right arm.
The verdict means that the United legend is likely to miss both legs of the Champions League last 16 clash with AC Milan, as well as the Carling Cup final against Villa at Wembley on Sunday February 28.
He could also miss three or four Premier League games, but should return in plenty of time for the visit of Liverpool to Old Trafford on March 20.
Meanwhile, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is content that his squad have time off to prepare for the first leg of their European clash, having already been knocked out of the FA Cup and therefore having a spare weekend.
He told MUTV: "In terms of preparing for a European tie we are pleased to have the weekend off.
"We're going to take full advantage of that, the players will have a couple of days off which they deserve and then we'll start working on Saturday."
