Anderson and Michael Carrick feel heat at Manchester United

Reports of Ferguson having a training ground row with Anderson and a fallout with England midfielder Carrick have emerged. This has been fuelled by the pair, who underperformed in last season's Champions League final defeat against Barcelona, being overlooked for the Premier League fixtures against Birmingham and Wigan. Both are named in Ferguson's squad for the clash with Arsenal at Old Trafford on Saturday evening, however, and the United manager insists that the emergence of Darron Gibson, plus a desire to rotate his squad, has proved costly for the pair. Ferguson said: "With both Carrick and Anderson, there are no issues at all." "Michael wasn't involved against Birmingham or Wigan because we played Burnley on the Wednesday and it was a chance to freshen up. That's exactly what he did. "We also had [Darren] Fletcher and [Paul] Scholes back [for Wigan}, so it was just a matter of freshening it up. We are also trying to push Gibson on as much as we can because the boy has improved at a fantastic rate of knots. "We've been really impressed with him. That's the reason. There's no reason other than that. "Anderson was also left out. I read stuff about a dust-up with Anderson which is absolute rubbish. Absolute nonsense." Ferguson ruled out imminent ankle surgery for defender Jonny Evans while confirming that midfielder Owen Hargreaves will return to Manchester to step up his comeback from a knee injury next month.
