50 Rising Stars to Watch in the Premier League: No 16 Javier 'Chicarito' Hernandez
Football.co.uk's countdown continues with a look at Manchester United's Mexican superstar Chicarito.
Name: Javier Hernandez 'Chicarito'
Born: 1 June 1988 (Age 22)
International Honours: Mexico (20 caps, 11 goals)
Chicarito rose through the ranks at Guadalajara in Mexico, and first attracted the attention of Manchester United scouts in the winter of 2009.
United had initially planned to let the player develop in Mexico, but his inclusion in the Mexican World Cup squad for South Africa forced their hand.
United scout Jim Lawlor went to watch Chicarito again in early 2010 and returned with another glowing report.
Chicarito signed for United in April this year, for an undisclosed fee, and went on to make a resounding impact at the 2010 World Cup Finals - where he scored twice and was named Man of the Match after Mexico's first-round defeat of France.
After an impressive pre-season he made his competitive debut in this season's Community Shield, contributing a goal in United's 3-1 defeat of Chelsea at Wembley.
Having scored United's winner away at Valencia in the Champions League, Chicarito claimed his first Premier League goal this weekend in the 2-2 draw with West Brom.
Not yet a first-team regular, the lightning-fast striker is already a fan favourite at Old Trafford and shows promise of joining the club's glittering array of stars past and present.
