Manchester City have clinched the signing of Tunisian World Cup defender Hatem Trabelsi from Ajax, subject to securing a work permit.
The 29-year-old was available on a Bosman free transfer following the end of his contract with the Dutch club and will link up with the Citizens after undergoing a stringent medical at Eastlands.
City boss Stuart Pearce told his club's official website: "He is one of the best Bosmans of the summer.
"He has played at the highest level for Ajax and been to three World Cups. He captains his country as well, so it is a good CV.
"I have watched him play for Ajax over the last three years and been very impressed with him.
"He is an attacking full-back, we're just waiting on that work permit now."
Trabelsi is reported to have agreed to a pay-as-you-play deal with City due to a history of knee problems.
