Toon big to go down? Newcastle follow in the footsteps of Man City, Forest and Leeds

Another football giant has fallen. Newcastle United, the black-and-white face of a proud northern city, will play in the Championship next season. St James' Park will welcome the likes of Blackpool,Doncaster and Swansea in 2009-10, while the league battles of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool will be confined to television screens in the city's bars and pubs.
