Everton manager David Moyes has confirmed that he has made an enquiry about Manchester City's Joey Barton, but has been told the midfielder is not for sale.
The highly-rated 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from Eastlands on several occasions, but City are in no mood to part with one of their rising stars.
Moyes told his club's official website: "I can confirm that we have made an enquiry for Joey Barton.
"However, Manchester City made it clear he was not for sale and we respect the wishes of the club and Stuart Pearce."
Meanwhile, City have handed a trial to former Italy international left-back Francesco Coco.
The 30-year-old, who is currently on the books of Internazionale, will spend a week training with the Citizens.
