Tevez rejected Real approach
17 Jul 2009 - 07:30:38
Carlos Tevez has revealed he turned down Real Madrid in order to sign for Manchester City.
The Argentina striker has swapped Manchester United for the Citizens on a five-year contract and claims that, although there was interest from the big-spending Spanish club, he was only ever interested in heading to Eastlands.
Tevez was mobbed by excited City fans after being unveiled as the club's latest new signing on Wednesday.
"Real made an offer but there was no agreement," said Tevez while on his new club's promotional tour in Abu Dhabi.
"There were talks about deals and agreements but in the end it was only City.
"They showed lots of interest in me and are intent on growing and signing big players.
"I am sad to leave United but I am excited to join City. I'm thinking about the future and I will grow with this club."
Meanwhile manager Mark Hughes has admitted that talks are ongoing with Emmanuel Adebayor aimed at bringing the Arsenal striker to the City of Manchester Stadium.
"We are still in discussions and the talks will continue," he claimed.
"We have got attacking-minded players but we are looking to bring other players to the club before the transfer window closes.
"We are also looking to strengthen the defence. Every transfer deal is difficult and has different problems.
"There are areas which we need to address but we are happy with our progress."
