    Taylor pens new City contract

    10 Jul 2010 - 14:48:46

Goalkeeper Stuart Taylor has signed a two-year contract extension with Manchester City.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper arrived at Eastlands on a free transfer last summer to provide back-up to regular number one Shay Given.

The former Arsenal and Aston Villa keeper made just one appearance in an FA Cup fourth round tie against Scunthorpe United.

Taylor was unable to step in during the closing weeks of the campaign when Given picked up a season-ending injury as he was sidelined with his own knee problem.

However, the former England Under-21 international is back to full fitness and has been handed a new two-year contract at a club where he is expected to be third choice behind Given and England international Joe Hart next season.

"Stuart Taylor has signed a new two-year contract with Manchester City," confirmed a club statement.

"The 29-year-old has fully recovered from the knee injury that prevented him from stepping in when Shay Given dislocated a shoulder late last season."
