Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has played down talk of a move for unsettled Internazionale striker Adriano,
Eriksson, speaking after Wednesday's 2-1 Carling Cup victory at Bristol City, suggested he wasn't interested in the Brazil international striker who has also been linked with a host of other Premier League clubs.
West Ham are now believed to be in pole position to land the 25-year-old before the transfer window closes on Friday.
"Even if I had made contact with him I would say no. Take that how you want," claimed Eriksson.
Meanwhile, the Swede admitted he was relieved to overcome Bristol City at Ashton Gate after Rolando Bianchi's late winner sealed their passage into the third round.
"We should have finished it much more easily. We had five or six good opportunities to score in the first-half alone," he claimed.
"But the rules of football are always the same. If you don't take your chances, eventually you will suffer.
"We were thinking there might be extra-time but he (Bianchi) found the finish when we needed it.
"That will be great for Rolando's confidence."
Meanwhile, unwanted Greece striker Georgios Samaras is poised set to join Middlesbrough before the transfer window closes on Friday.
