Sven confirms Anelka offer

Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has revealed that his club came close to signing Nicolas Anelka in the January transfer window, before the striker chose to join Chelsea.
The France international left Bolton Wanderers bound for Stamford Bridge in a £15million deal in January, having snubbed a potential return to the Citizens.
Eriksson claimed: "It was close.
"Anelka was very high on our list because he's a great footballer, the complete player in many ways - pace, strength, technique and he scores goals.
"But then Chelsea came in and it was difficult to compete with them.
"Unfortunately we have to accept that, for a footballer, if you have the choice between Chelsea and City you will choose Chelsea right now.
"In a couple of years maybe not, but that's the way it is right now."
