Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has turned the tables on Thaksin Shinawatra by calling for further investment from the club's owner.
Eriksson's future at the City of Manchester Stadium has been brought into question in recent days after Shinawatra revealed he was planning to review the structure in place at the club following a dip in form during the second half of the season.
However, Eriksson claims he is confident he will still be at the helm next season and has called on the former Thailand prime minister to back him in the transfer market for the second successive summer.
"We need to invest more money on players - that is part of the project," said the Swede.
"If we do that, it will be fantastic as we all want success.
"Everyone is looking forward to that happening and I am sure we will be better next season.
"This is a new team, a young team and you can see signs already that these players are capable of winning trophies in the future.
"It is my job to concentrate on the team and the players to make sure we win games."
Meanwhile, Eriksson has rubbished claims that he is living in fear of being axed by Shinawatra after just one season at the helm.
"I already have assurances. I have a contract, so there is nothing to discuss about my situation," he added.
"There is always pressure - that is why you want jobs in football. I like it."
