Santa Cruz welcomes battle

Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz has welcomed the recent arrival of Emmanuel Adebayor to Eastlands in a big-money switch from Arsenal.

The Togo international has been added to a a squad that already contains a wealth of striking talent including Valeri Bojinov, Robinho, Felipe Caicedo, Jo, Ched Evans, Benjani and Carlos Tevez.

Although Jo has agreed to join Everton on a season-long loan agreement, Santa Cruz knows he faces a tough job keeping his place in Hughes' first-team plans.

The Paraguay international told Sky Sports: "Everybody was very excited about what has been happening with him because it was in the media for a few days.

"He is a great player and he has shown great quality at Arsenal. The strength that he will give to City is very welcome.

"It is always a challenge (when another striker arrives), you know that you will need to fight for your place.

"It will make people work hard and ensure they give their best in every session and every game."
