Santa Cruz targets top four
23 Jun 2009 - 08:31:23
New Manchester City signing Roque Santa Cruz has stated that the club's ambitious project was the main reason behind his £17million move from Blackburn Rovers.
The 27-year-old Paraguay international has signed a four-year contract with the Citizens, having been linked with an exit from Ewood Park for much of the last 12 months.
Santa Cruz told his new club's official website: "The owners want the club to be more successful - they want to break into the top four.
"I spoke to the chairman and I know his ambitions are known to everybody at the club - he made sure that I know as well.
"Everybody expects a lot and the fact the club is signing big players, great players, shows we want to be as good as possible.
"Everybody is talking about breaking the top four, so once we get there, we need to keep looking forward and see what is the best we can get.
"I know the kind of football Mark Hughes wants to play and the kind of character he is - he's a winner; he wants to make things happen and be successful.
"Those are always my thoughts as well - so knowing what he wants was a big factor in coming here, because I know the club is going in the right direction."
