Samaras slams exit talk
29 Sep 2007 - 08:34:47
Forgotten Manchester City striker Georgios Samaras insists there was never any danger of him leaving the club in the summer.
The Greece international was linked with a move away from Eastlands before last month's transfer window closed, but says there was nothing in the rumours.
Samaras marked his first appearance of the season by netting the last-gasp winning goal in the Carling Cup victory against Norwich City and says he is keen to remain with Sven-Goran Eriksson's side.
"I never had the chance to leave because I'm 100 per cent committed to City," he told the Manchester Evening News.
"The rumours you heard were just rumours. I spoke with the board and the manager and knew from the first day that I'd stay and must fight for my place.
"It's part of my personality, my soul and my mind never to give up. I believe in myself and I believe that I can be part of this team. I just keep working and never give up.
"I'm not a left midfielder, I'm a striker and I like to play there but the gaffer makes decisions and I have to accept them."
