Robinho faces police probe
28 Jan 2009 - 07:59:28
Manchester City's Brazilian ace Robinho has been questioned by police investigating an alleged sexual assault in a Leeds nightclub a fortnight ago.
The 25-year-old was quizzed by West Yorkshire Police in relation to an incident which occurred on January 14, but his spokesman was at pains to confirm that his client had done nothing wrong.
A statement from Chris Nathaniel read: "We can confirm that Robinho met the police today (Tuesday), as pre-arranged and as part of a criminal investigation.
"He strenuously denies any allegation of wrongdoing or criminality and is happy to co-operate with the police if required further."
Robinho has recently been in trouble with his club for leaving a warm-weather training camp in Tenerife to attend to personal issues back in South America.
That has left Citizens manager Mark Hughes ready to take action against the former Real Madrid forward.
He told the club's official website: "The disciplinary procedure has to be gone through and once that's run its course then Robbie will have to face some disciplinary measures.
"Let's make this clear. Robinho will be treated in exactly the same manner, given the circumstances, as any other player at Manchester City. Everybody knows that - there's no special case here.
"Given a similar circumstance with any other player here, they would expect to be treated in a similar manner.
"That needs to be made clear and that's the top and bottom of it."
