Robinho debut excites Hughes
14 Sep 2008 - 10:33:38
Mark Hughes believes Robinho has shown glimpses of what he can bring to Manchester City following his goalscoring debut in Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Chelsea.
The £33million Brazilian, who joined the Citizens in a British transfer record deal from Real Madrid on deadline day, fired his new side ahead with a deflected 13th minute free-kick at Eastlands before Chelsea came roaring back to claim the points.
Robinho drifted in and out of the game, but impressed Hughes with flashes of skill which he hopes will become more consistent as he becomes more accustomed to the Premier League and his new team-mates.
"We are disappointed because obviously we made a great start with a fantastic goal by Robinho," said Hughes.
"Robinho has given us glimpses of what he is going to produce this year so overall we can't be too disheartened.
"Chelsea are a good side and, credit to them, I thought they were excellent on the day, but we will get better.
"When you are chasing the game against Chelsea it becomes difficult so they wait for their opportunities and they can exploit them as we found to our cost."
