    Richards relief for City

    08 Dec 2009 - 11:21:13

Manchester City have been boosted by the news that defender Micah Richards did not suffer any serious knee damage in the 2-1 weekend victory over Chelsea.

The 21-year-old England international was forced to leave the game against the Premier League leaders with just over 20 minutes to play, but has returned to full training with the rest of the Citizens squad.

Richards told his club's official website: "I heard a crack and then the knee gave way and for a moment I thought it was really serious.

"It was a bit of a worry because it was the right knee, the one on which I had an operation last season. But the pain subsided and fortunately I am fit to train again.

"That is great news because no-one wants to miss out. We feel that last week has given us great momentum.

"The two team performances against Arsenal and Chelsea were among the best for a long time. Everyone was playing well at the same time.

"There was a real determination about our play and we want to go on and use that as a platform for more success."

Meanwhile, Wayne Bridge has not been so fortunate, as he will be out for at least a fortnight due to a knee problem sustained against Chelsea, one of his former clubs.
