Progress pleases City chief
02 Jul 2009 - 07:34:13
Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour believes the foundations have been laid for a successful future at Eastlands.
Mansour, who is the head of the Abu Dhabi-based consortium which took over the club 10 months ago, is pleased by the progress made by City in the early days of his reign.
Manager Mark Hughes came under fire towards the end of last season when it became clear that City would not qualify for Europe this year despite massive investment in the squad.
However, Mansour is happy with the progress made by the club in his first season at the helm.
"We continue to be very clear in regard to our expectations and ambitions," he told the club's official website.
"We are competitors. We are here to win and to build a club that will be in a position to win trophies.
"That said, we know that will take time and this is where a patient and pragmatic approach will be essential.
"What we have done in the last 10 months sets the tone of the way we will do things very clearly.
"However, 10 months on since the acquisition I am more convinced than ever of the potential that is there to be realised."
