Premier League 2014/15 club preview: Manchester City

Well, what more can be said? After last season when it appeared that Liverpool were going to clinch their first title in over 20 years, Man City quietly plodded on and almost unnoticeably came from behind to win their second Premier League title.

With no Balotelli to start an argument in an empty room, no Mancini to make that empty room, Manuel Pellegrini took the helm, probably as not many fan’s first choice. He took his first season in charge well and came up with 2 trophies.

Where/if do they need improvement? Well Manuel got his Willy (Caballero) out in last night’s ICC game against Milan thus providing extra competition/replacement for Joe Hart in goal. Also, Bacary Sagna and (The Isle of ) Fernando have increased options. Plus, having signed, or not signed, or maybe signed Eliaquim Mangala depending on which column you read, if you check the squad out….it’s pretty deep. Assuming they remember Yaya Toure’s birthday this year, there may not be any squad issues or chemical imbalance. Pellegrini seems keen to tie Milner, Dzeko et al down with some contracts, maybe providing some solidarity and security maybe not felt under the flapping scarf of Mancini.

Having also felt the slight twang of fifty large ones leaving their bank account as a slap on the wrist for breaching the FFP rules, how does this leave them?

Linked with:

Mehdi Benatia, Kelechi Iheanacho, Isco

So Who?

I’m sure Pellegrini realises he has enough talent to win another league title, but I am sure he would want maybe just one marquee signing to rubber stamp his authority on the Man City team sheet. Benatia looks increasingly unlikely as Roma are keen to keep hold. Isco is another player linked with a move away from Madrid but do Man City have too much in midfield already? Maybe the time is right to start forgetting birthday cards and sign some talent who see their future long term at the Etihad?
