Pearce accepts Under-21 job

Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce has confirmed he has accepted the job of succeeding Peter Taylor as the England Under-21 coach on a part-time basis.
Pearce, 44, was earmarked as the Football Association's number one choice to lead the national side at this summer's European Under-21 Championships, but City were reportedly unhappy with the prospect of losing their manager for periods during the course of the Premiership season.
But the former England international full-back will be appointed Taylor's successor providing the City board at the FA can reach a suitable agreement.
"The FA had offered me the Under-21 job and being the patriot that I am, I am honoured to accept," he said after Sunday's FA Cup fourth round victory over Southampton.
"If I felt it would have been detrimental to Manchester City, I would not have even considered the position.
"It is a fantastic honour and I believe it will improve me as a manager and not only my standing but that of the club.
"I can understand the club's concern about me taking my eye of the ball but the amount of time involved will be minimal and I think it will also be to the benefit of Manchester City."
