Manchester City have confirmed that defender Nedum Onuoha will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his dislocated left shoulder.
The 21-year-old England Under-21 international suffered the injury during the 2-0 home defeat by Chelsea last weekend, with his joint appearing to go straight back into position.
However, Onuoha did not escape serious injury and faces a lengthy recuperation period over the summer.
Citizens boss Sven-Goran Eriksson told the club's official website: "He is out for the rest of the season, but hopefully he will be okay when we start pre-season.
"The doctor has told me he will be out for three months.
"He has had surgery, but I'm told that at this stage it looks good, although he is still going to be out for a long time now.
"It's a problem I could do without for sure. He played well against Chelsea and it's been good for him to play so many times recently, so it's a blow, but we'll just have to get on with it."
