Manchester City could be without Nedum Onuoha for a significant amount of time after the defender suffered a serious knee injury in training.
City are still waiting on scans to assess the full extent of the injury, but the England Under-21 international looks set to be sidelined for a long-term period according to manager Stuart Pearce.
"Nedum had scan on Monday that showed a reasonable amount of damage inside his knee, but he will have to see a specialist before we find out the full extent of the damage," Pearce told the club's official website.
"It is a massive disappointment for the lad because I thought he was getting better and better as the games went by.
"It was just an innocuous challenge but he walked off the training pitch, tried to come back, then walked off again.
"There was not a great deal of pain there but when something like that happens, in the back of your mind, you know there is a problem."
Onuoha has made ten appearances for City this season.
