Negredo next in line for Pellegrini and Manchester City?

As Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini progresses his re-shaping of his new squad, the Spanish influence at Eastfields looks set to continue to grow. A deal for Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo appears to be well advanced, despite the Spanish club’s president denying that any bid has been received, and a £20million fee, perhaps with City’s young Spanish striker Denis Suarez spending a loan period in his home country with the Andalucian outfit.

Although initially, some could argue that moving for Spanish players is a fairly unimaginative approach by City and the new manager, this should hide the fact acquiring players of known ability from what is arguably the best league in world football, is both sound and sensible. Pellegrini is no novice at this game and is a canny enough operator to know how to deliver on requirements at a top line club.

Negredo currently vies for the ‘line leader’ position in the Roja national team with Chelsea’s Fernando Torres, and with a record last season of netting 25 times in 36 league games for a club like Sevilla, he has a sound goal-scoring pedigree. It’s thought that his salary at Sevilla is relatively modest, so persuading Negredo to forsake the Andalucian sunshine for a bit of Manchester’s slightly different climate may not be a difficult task, especially with player now 27 years old, and looking for the big move of his career.

Although, as mentioned above, Jose Maria del Nido, president of Sevilla has said that no bids had been received for his player, he went to confirm that there had been interest from two English clubs, thought to be City and Tottenham Hotspur, and that it was possible that the player would leave. With a deal already completed between the clubs for City recruit Jesus Navas, the club will consider themselves to be in pole position to add Negredo to the squad.
