And the Manchester City boss has promised them success and silverware if they join his Eastlands revolution. The Blues are in the hunt for some of the top names in international football, with Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic high on their wanted list. But Mancini fears that one or two of their proposed big-money deals will be stymied by the failure to land a top-four finish. "It is important that players come here for the right reasons," said Mancini, now back in Italy after a summit meeting with the club owners and executives in Abu Dhabi last week. "A player may go to a club because they are in the Champions League. But then that club gets knocked out in the group stages - and they are in the same situation as us. "I think the important thing is the project. We have a big project for the future here. "That's why I believe that if a player chooses Manchester City, they have made a fantastic choice, even though we will not be in the Champions League next season. "If we had got to fourth place, then all the players would have wanted to come here. "It's possible that some players do not want to come now, but for me, that would be a big mistake - because City are a fantastic club." The Blues have made Torres their number one target, but may face stiff competition from Chelsea, while Barcelona will drop out of the chase if, as expected, they land Valencia's David Villa. But Mancini is also keen on linking up again with Barca striker Ibrahimovic, who could also be surplus if Villa signs. And the Blues still hope that they can agree a deal with Liverpool, in need of cash to help pay their £237million debt, for Gerrard. But again, they face stiff competition from abroad, with Real Madrid and Inter Milan also interested. Do City have any chance of landing Gerard or Torres? Have your say.| Submit Comments| Comments (150)| Printable VersionAdd A CommentEnter your comments:Type your comment here...
