    Mancini hails Tevez heroics

    30 Mar 2010 - 08:18:43

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini was full of praise for Carlos Tevez after the striker's quickfire hat-trick secured a 3-0 victory at Wigan Athletic.

Tevez netted three times at the DW Stadium between the 72nd and 84th minutes of the game, after the Latics had been reduced to ten men due to the controversial sending-off of Gary Caldwell.

Mancini said after a crucial win in the race for fourth place: "It was a good performance by Carlos. He scored three important goals and we won this game. I am happy with him.

"He is scoring a lot of goals and has always been a good player. He is a young player who is improving every year. I hope he can continue like this for the rest of the season."

Of the game as a whole, Mancini added on the club's official website: "It was a tough game because Wigan played well.

"We were not good in the first half and it was impossible for us to be like that again after the break. We had to change the tempo after half-time, but after the red card the game really changed.

"I'm pleased with the clean sheet. If we want to finish fourth, we really have to pay attention in defence but we also need a lot of goals."
