Mancini content with victory
22 Mar 2010 - 09:42:31
Manchester City head coach Roberto Mancini felt that his side were worthy 2-1 winners at Fulham, despite the visitors being forced to stave off heavy pressure late on at Craven Cottage.
Goals from Roque Santa Cruz and Carlos Tevez gave the Citizens a two-goal cushion just past the half-hour mark, but the home side hit back after the interval to make City work hard for three precious points.
Mancini told the club's official website: "We played a good game, were very strong and we deserved to win.
"It wasn't as comfortable as it perhaps should have been in the end, but Fulham fought well and were maybe a little tired after their game against Juventus.
"We started well, scored two great goals and had many chances to make the game safe a long time before Fulham scored. I thought the whole team played really well, but we needed to take one of the chances early in the second half.
"The second goal was the key because it made us calm and allowed us to pass the ball around and create many chances.
"This was a great win for us because this is a difficult ground to come to and not many teams win here.
"It was important for us, but it'll be a fight until the end of the season with the other three teams (for fourth place).
"Liverpool are a fantastic team and I think we must fight with them, Aston Villa and Tottenham."
