Manchester City's summer spending spree may begin with Jesus Navas

Now the Spanish season is over, the managerial merry-go-round can be cranked up a notch or two. Jose Mourinho has given every hint short of tattooing his head with “I belong to Stamford Bridge” that he’s returning to west London, and after waving farewell to Malaga, Manuel Pellegrini will shortly be ensconced at Eastlands, ready to indulge in a bit of retail therapy.

There’s been more than a few leaks about the Chilean’s list of desired talent that he’d like to add to City’s squad. Unsurprisingly, most are from Spain, and at least one, young midfield tyro Isco, actually from Malaga. It may be however that a different Spanish player becomes the first of the new arrivals.

Sevilla wide man Jesus Navas has declared his interest in following Pellegrini to Eastlands. No surprise then that the player was on most of the lists drawn up as potential new recruits. His club appear resigned to losing the 27 year old international and are thought to be working on achieving the best deal they can get for his services.

With the player expressing a desire to move in pursuit of success and glory, it seems that the deal may be a fair way down the road already. Sky Sports website quotes him as saying that “"Manchester City has done all it can to bring me in and I have to be grateful for that. I want to go on and win trophies. I'm now open to anything. I want to win more and reach my goals."

With this one on the way, it’s possible that Navas will be first of Pellegrini’s arrivals through the door at Eastlands. One thing’s for sure however. He won’t be the last.
