Manchester City defender Stephen Jordan has turned down the chance to join Peterborough United on loan in favour of fighting for a first-team place at Eastlands.
Citizens manager Kevin Keegan agreed to allow the 22-year-old to move to London Road, only for the player to decide that the loan move was not right for him.
Disappointed Posh chief Barry Fry told his club's official website: "I spoke to Kevin at Manchester City on Wednesday and he agreed to let me have Stephen Jordan on loan.
"But speaking to Stephen in the afternoon he told me he wants to stay at City as he believes he is close to breaking into the first team.
"Stephen wants to give it another month before coming out on loan. I was disappointed, but I accept his reasoning."
Jordan made two substitute appearances for City last season, but looked to be on his way out of the club in the summer until Keegan persuaded him to sign a new one-year deal.
At the time of the contract renewal Keegan explained: "I have promised him that if he is not featuring or part of the senior squad often enough then we would look at his situation at Christmas.
"I want him to break through this year to get in and around the team this season more than he was last year."
Meanwhile, City full-back Ben Thatcher has pulled out of the Wales squad to face Azerbaijan on Saturday because of a stomach upset.
