Ireland set for new City deal

    12 May 2009 - 12:24:56

Reports suggest Manchester City will offer Stephen Ireland a lucrative new contract this summer.

The 22-year-old, who is enjoying a magnificent season, has already found the net 13 times this term from midfield and has been one of the most consistent players in an inconsistent side.

City boss Mark Hughes is believed to be on the verge of offering the Republic of Ireland international a £50,000-a-week contract and lengthen his stay at Eastlands.

Ireland recently told the Manchester Evening News: "I want to play here until I am 33 or 34-years-old and hopefully I'll get a contract sorted out soon and continue to play for the club I love for as long as possible."

However, several players seem certain to be leaving the club this summer with Didi Hamann, Darius Vassell, Danny Mills, Michael Ball and Glauber Berti at the top of the list.
