Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce has revealed that summer signing Dietmar Hamann could miss the start of the Premiership season.
The German midfielder picked up a foot injury during City's pre-season trip to China and the club's medical staff are still unsure about the severity of the problem.
Pearce said: "The scan has picked up something, it might be an old fracture or a new one but the symptoms suggest it's an old one, so we'll keep monitoring that."
City also have doubts about Trevor Sinclair, Richard Dunne and Stephen Ireland ahead of the opening weekend trip to Chelsea.
Sinclair has a neck problem, while Dunne and Ireland have muscle strains which have forced them to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland squad for Wednesday's friendly against the Netherlands.
