Hughes will splash the cash

Mark Hughes will once again be looking to bring in new players over the summer transfer window as Manchester City aim for a leap forward next season. City face Spurs on Saturday in a match-up between two clubs Hughes believes could challenge the 'Big Four' next season. Although the City manager knows that he will be working with a large transfer budget, he stressed the importance of spending Sheikh Mansour's fortune wisely. "Tottenham and ourselves have similar ambitions. Spurs are obviously looking to build again this summer," said Hughes. "Harry Redknapp likes a good turnover of players because he thinks it stimulates the group. I think he expects to progress next season and we are similar. Money"It's good to be manager of a club with money available for new players but how you spend it is what matters." Hughes echoed his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson's comments about clubs "adding noughts" to the value of their players due to City's well-known wealth. The 45-year-old stressed that his side do not have an unlimited amount of money to spend on transfers. He added: "What Sir Alex said about the summer was spot on. Everybody understands that. It was always going to be difficult. "The view in the football world is that we have money to throw at things. We have resources but we have budgetary constraints as well."
