Manager Mark Hughes has warned Joleon Lescott that time is running out if he wants to join Manchester City.
The Everton defender has been the subject of two unsuccessful bids from the big-spending Eastlands club in recent weeks with the Toffees insisting he is not for sale.
Lescott has yet to submit a transfer request at Goodison Park and Hughes has warned the versatile England international that his club's interest is beginning to wane.
"We have to make a decision on any player we are pursuing," said the City boss.
"If we feel a certain deal has run its course, we will look elsewhere.
"Whether we have reached that stage with Joleon only time will tell.
"Obviously we can do deals right to the end of the transfer window (on August 31).
"However, we would prefer to do our business as quickly as possible and ideally by the end of this week."
