Hughes to step up Toure chase
27 Jul 2009 - 08:33:45
Reports suggest Manchester City manager Mark Hughes will step up his efforts to sign Arsenal defender Kolo Toure after missing out on Chelsea captain John Terry.
City were linked with the Ivory Coast international in January and Hughes is a long-standing admirer of a player who has just 12 months left on his Gunners contract.
Hughes also remains keen to land Joleon Lescott from Everton as he looks to strengthen his defensive options after spending most of the last few weeks bolstering his strikeforce with the likes of Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor and Roque Santa Cruz.
It is believed that City are willing to spend £14million on Toure who has made more than 300 appearances for the Gunners since making his debut for Arsene Wenger's side in March 2002.
If the 28-year-old defender does leave the Emirates Stadium it will be another blow for Wenger who has already lost Adebayor to City this summer.
On Sunday, Terry ended speculation about his future by pledging his future to Chelsea.
